Australian universities can be broadly divided into 4 groups. At the top of the pecking order sits the prestigious Group of 8.  The Ivy League of Australia. These consist of – The Australian National University, The University of Melbourne, The University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, The University of Queensland, Monash University, The University of Western Australia, and  The University of Adelaide.

The second group is ATN– The Australian Technology Network. These consist of 5 Technology universities – University of Technology Sydney, Curtin University, RMIT, Deakin University and University of South Australia.

The third group are the balance universities in a broad category.

The fourth group are the private colleges which offer Diploma and a handful of Bachelor & Master degrees.
